Who would love their stick-thin figures? Who would hate eating? Anorexics. But did you know that they already exist as an aggregate of people taking anorexia nervosa as another alternative in living life instead of a disorder? They could be found online on Pro-ana websites. Pro-ana or pro-anorexia are websites that started as a means of consolidating efforts to contradict those that wants anorexics to get better. These groups of anorexics think that their choice to starve themselves is a lifestyle instead of a condition. They felt the need for respect on that belief of theirs. So they built these pro-ana sites to address this concern. Many doctors find pro-ana websites as a threat to potential anorectics and those that already succumbed to anorexia. Experts think that they encourage more potential anorexics to totally embrace it. But reportedly, not all pro-ana websites do this. Some are just exclusive to those who would want support in recovering from anorexia. Often, pro-ana websites advocate becoming better anorexics but rarely do they really influence healthy people to become anorexics too. Pro-ana websites present advices on what to use and what to not use to be better anorexics. Forums from these websites are also offered to tackle issues on anorexia concerns. Though some could be really hard on those who prefer to seek treatment, some other pro-ana sites are quite supportive to those who chose to not become anorexics anymore. These websites also contain pictures that could be labeled as "anorexia stimulating". They could either be pictures of really thin people, which they are advocating to achieve, or pictures of obese people, which they are trying to avoid becoming. Some pro-ana websites could also present misleading information on how anorexia should really be viewed. These misinterpretations are often regarding anorexia as a healthy lifestyle.
Many online readers could really become curious and still visit pro-ana websites no matter how twisted they promote anorexia. Taking a look at the disturbing pictures is often their main objective instead of the underlying education that is supposed to be more absorbed. Pro-ana websites has spreaded even to popular blogging websites like Livejournal. This is where new member share pictures and rate themselves if they are "anorexic enough" or not. Many of these pro-ana communities support a disturbing behavior like masochism or self-harming and other alarming habits. These communities could often be recognized through their names that contain words like "thinnest", "perfect", and beauty. Pro-Smallpox, a satire version of pro-ana, and Anti-Ana were built out of the controversy that grew from the activities and principles of pro-ana websites.
